Mike Pence seen as 'p---y' for not supporting indictment of Trump: MSNBC guest

FOX News

MSNBC guest Kurt Andersen on Tuesday attacked Mike Pence for not supporting the indictment of Donald Trump. He called the ex-VP a "p---y." An MSNBC host and his guest piled on Mike Pence on Tuesday, suggesting the former vice president was a "p---y" for not supporting the indictment of Donald Trump. Host John Heilemann mocked Pence as boring and dull, suggesting he had the personality of the "squarest person you knew growing up." But it was guest and author Kurt Andersen who made things personal.

After Trump's Coronavirus Diagnosis, What's His Medical Outlook?

The New Yorker

In a midnight tweet, the President of the United States revealed that he and the First Lady have both tested positive for the coronavirus, raising concerns about his health and upending an already chaotic campaign season just thirty-two days before the election. The virus--which has transformed American life, killed more than two hundred thousand Americans, and devastated the U.S. economy--now threatens the health of the President and senior government officials. The White House has said that the President is experiencing mild symptoms; even so, they are signs of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. From here, his illness might dissipate or grow much more severe. For the moment, President Trump's illness is mild.

At Tokyo summit, diplomats say Japan can tap domestic stability to take on global leadership role

The Japan Times

Despite the fraught global environment -- with U.S.-China animosity mounting alongside a bevy of regional security concerns -- Japan appears to be viewing the situation as a glass half-full scenario, according to leading experts, as well as current and former officials. That was the scene Wednesday, when pundits and diplomats from Japan and across the globe gathered for the Eurasia Group's inaugural G-Zero Summit in Tokyo. With China and the Trump administration posing potential headaches for Tokyo, many said the country's unique position and stable domestic politics could be an opportunity for it to break out of its diplomatic shell and play a larger leadership role in regional and global politics. "After World War II, the U.S. has shouldered much of the responsibility" in establishing and maintaining the international rules-based order, Foreign Minister Taro Kono said in the conference's keynote speech. Yet Kono believes Washington can't continue to go it alone and "has been getting a little tired … so someone else has to take up the responsibility."

Mike Pence: US to create Space Force by 2020

Al Jazeera

The US is planning to create The Space Force, a new branch of the US military, by 2020, Vice President Mike Pence announced on Thursday. It would become the US military's sixth branch, following the Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps. "America will always seek peace in space, as on the Earth. But history proves that peace only comes through strength, and in the realm of outer space, the United States Space Force will be that strength in the years ahead," Pence said in an address to the Pentagon. As we continue to carry American leadership in space, so also will we carry America's commitment to freedom into this new frontier.

Golden parachutes can't seem to stay out of the news. Last year, Jeff Smisek, the former CEO of United Airlines, received a separation payment of 4.875 million in cash along with additional equity awards and other benefits for a total of close to 37 million after being ousted from his company. Can it also transform the nation? Hillary Clinton was campaigning for her husband in January 1992 when she learned of the race's newest flare-up: Gennifer Flowers had just released tapes of phone calls with Bill Clinton to back up her claim they had had an affair. We tend to associate salads most closely with spring and summer, when fresh produce is at its peak and when we're all in the mood for lighter, fresher-tasting meals.

'You are so out of it,' judge tells lawyer for Gov. Mike Pence in case about Syrian refugee policy

Los Angeles Times

Attorneys defending Indiana Gov. Mike Pence's order to bar agencies from helping Syrian refugees resettle in his state faced unusually fierce questioning before a federal appeals court Wednesday, suggesting the panel might side with a lower court that found the order discriminatory. A three-judge panel for the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago zeroed in on the intelligence and intent behind the Republican vice presidential candidate's order, which a federal judge said in February "clearly discriminates" against refugees from the war-torn nation. Judges suggested that Indiana could've had a stronger argument for opting out of the refugee program -- in which states disperse federal money to resettlement organizations -- instead of excluding Syrians. "If you're in, you play by the government's rules," Judge Frank Easterbrook said. The oral arguments came the same day the White House announced that the refugee program will be expanded in the next year as concern continues about the refugee crisis stemming from Syria's civil war and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
